Consistency is NOT Key… Take a Break! Take a Walk! Pet a Cat! Fall in Love!

There’s a phrase I hear a lot when it comes to marketing these days: “Consistency is Key!” You’ll hear many coaches say “You have to send out a newsletter every week and post a new TikTok every day if you want to build your audience and convert them into new clients!”

Is there some merit to that idea? Sure. If you want to become better at something, you just have to do it - a lot. There’s no other way around it. Plus, it behooves most people to build some sort of routine and consistency in their lives and businesses. That said - doing the same thing day-in and day-out because you’re “supposed to,” won’t always get you where you want to go.

  • If you’re exhausted, take a break.

  • If you’re uninspired, take a break.

  • If you’re more excited about something else at the moment, take a break.

Last June, after years of rebuilding and reinventing myself, I was really #blessed to find my person. We spent the last year and a half dating, and falling in love, and moving in together, and getting a puppy, and getting engaged, and making our house a home. It was a welcome change from being solely focused on my career and personal development for the prior six years.

However, during that entire time, I didn’t send out a single newsletter, or pay any real attention to my social media accounts - and I was feeling really guilty about it despite the fact I was really enjoying my life. I had to sit back and really ask myself why - why was I feeling so guilty if I was feeling so fulfilled? The answer was that I felt like it was what I should be doing - because that’s what business coaches do. They send emails, they make blog posts, they put cute little quotes on their Instagrams. That’s what I should be doing too, right?!

Well, maybe not. I wasn’t feeling at all drawn to social media at the time - and I strongly believe that our feelings translate into what we do. Looking back, I can now see it was for the best that I took a little timeout… because I started to miss it. I started to miss connecting with y’all this way - being able to share what I’m going through and what I’m learning - and knowing that other business owners are going through the same thing. I miss that bond.

So here I am, with a reminder to:

  • Take the walk.

  • Fall in love.

  • Snuggle with your baby.

  • Bake the cookies.

  • Take the pottery class.

  • Watch the sunset.

  • Take the nap.

Do what feels good and don’t feel guilty about it. (I know how hard every single one of you work - and I know you all deserve it.) Your career will be here waiting for you. And who knows, maybe you’ll feel a new sense of inspiration when you get back. :)

Looking forward to reconnecting with y’all!
